The Oprah Winfrey Show

Simply called as Oprah or O, The Oprah Winfrey Show is the highest rated TV show in the history of American television. It is produced and hosted by Oprah Winfrey. At present, The show is the longest running daytime TV talk show in the US with a record of nearly 5,000 episodes and more than 24 seasons produced.

The first airing of the show on Television was on September 8, 1986. However, it started as a morning talk show in radio that was being aired through WLS-Chicago. In 1983, Winfrey took over as the new host of the show and within 12 months, the show became a huge success and reached the top place from being the last place when it comes to radio ratings. In 1986, it was re-launch as The Oprah Winfrey Show and was shown nationally.

The Oprah Winfrey Show is very influential especially to women. The show covers various topics from politics to entertainment industry to world events and even philanthropic activities.

The show is being aired mostly on ABC-owned stations across the United States. In the United Kingdom it is being aired by Diva TV, in Canada by CTV, in Ireland by TV3 Ireland, in Australia by Network Ten, and in Brazil by GNT. During an interview with Larry King, Winfrey announced that she is no renewing her contract; hence, the show will end by 2011. However, Winfrey has plans of running a new talk show in her own network - the OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.
