The New Illegal Download!

Expert Author Michael Klein

I found the following story this morning to be amazing, while at the same time one of the oddest things that I have read in weeks (other than the fact that the iPhone 4 doesn't have reception problems). Apparently the internet youth are getting high off of Digital Drugs. No that is not a typo. If my son or any of his friends happen to stumble on this blog, do me a favor and give this a try, that way there will be no need for me to punish you since stupidity is not a crime.

The trend is called binaural - a term that musicians have used for years (even the title of a Pearl Jam album). Binaural / better known as two-toned technology, alters your brain waves and mental state producing a state of ecstasy (something that music naturally does for all of us). I-Dosers as they are called, listen to these atonal tracks while sitting motionless with headphones. The better the headphones and you know how the story goes. These binaural beats do not chemically alter the brain nor are they addictive. Remember, being bored and stupid is not a crime. However, on a serious note this could lead to the use of real drugs (very stupid and punishable by more than being sent to your room).

Music in general provides the listener with an ecstatic effect hence the reason why you feel good when you listen to your favorite band. That is the sole reason why we listen to music, simply because it makes us feel good. Wrapping your head in a blanket and placing headphones on - depending on your headphones, will absolutely leave you hearing a song that you have heard hundreds of times, in a very different way and in a much darker and sweatier environment.

The classic binaural cd of all time can be considered Roxy Music's Avalon. So elegant, yet so simple that unless you use a good set of headphones, you will never hear the hundreds of little guitar riffs, slight percussion hits and atmospheric nuances that were so strategically and masterfully placed throughout each track by producer Rhett Davies.

However for those of you who just don't listen to reason then log onto YouTube, watch and buy a book for $80 that will tell you exactly how to achieve the same music high that I just shared with you. Or for those of my friends out there on Facebook who I have met and for those who I look forward to meeting one day, send me an email and I can recommend some great music from artists like David Sylvian, Brian Eno or Art of Noise, that for most of you will be undiscovered gems.

Instead of I-Dosing just try listening to your favorite CD on a good stereo system or invest in a good set of headphones - I suggest Sony MDR-7506 however, you can achieve the same sensation with your iPhone or Droid with a pair of V-Moda (Remix Remote that will set you back about a C note). Oh and no jail time unless you end up stealing the phones.

Enjoy.
