Everyday, the Internet is processing a greater amount of data whether as personal information or as confidential business files. Data will refer to any piece of information that is electronically stored either in emails, social media sites and other databases people may have records of themselves in. Whether it's in the form of text, music, video or image, this data is available on the Internet and is, therefore, a potential target of hackers. Thus, there is the need to store these data with the highest level of protection with which it may be secured.

There is no doubt about the magnitude of positive effects that the present technology has given us. Data has become very mobile and conveniently so and this has caused many great things to people, especially those running businesses or organizations. Now, they are not restricted to the physical confines of their office to be able to do basic tasks vital to their operations. These days, one can even have a conference with colleagues from another branch through remote video conferencing technology.

On the other hand, while this may be very beneficial in terms of time and even cost savings, there is a downside to having everything being done online - the risk for data theft or abuse. It is not uncommon to hear news about top secret or confidential company information leaking out. In most cases, these companies have had to suffer in a variety of ways from preempted marketing strategies to financial losses and, sometimes, sheer embarrassment.

As a precautionary measure, most companies use encryption which is expected to work miracles when it comes to protecting their information when it travels the web. Fact is, people sometimes fail to encrypt their information before letting it to travel to a portable device. Hence, it is highly recommended that companies invest in an external device that already has a built in encryption functionality.

However, business owners need not rush into buying this machine as there are varieties that they need to carefully choose from depending on their particular need. For example, for Internet users who are always on the go but would like to keep logged in the account can have a quick disconnect feature through the LCD panel. This will remove the external drive from the user's screen which means nobody can access it unless the user enters his pin correctly.

And then there another risk with keypads that may, on their own, reveal the PIN for many others to see. The usual causes can be anything from marks on the keypad to deliberate attempts by competitors who wish to upstage the company by snatching some of the information available on its site.

For increased online security, one can use an IP hider so he can surf anonymously from end to end and not have to be concerned about viruses, worms, the feared keyloggers. and practically every online contaminant there is. After all, Internet security is not always that simple and the only way it becomes simple is that point when it's actually working for us. But as long as we stay protected on a daily basis, our bigger security needs will take care of themselves.
