Affiliate marketing is just like any other business out there - there are people who are successful and there are people who are not successful. That's the hard fact about the business. The real truth behind affiliate marketing, no matter what anyone else said to you, is that 90% of affiliate involved in online business don't actually make money from their work, or they make less than $100 per month.
Therefore, before you jump into affiliate marketing and online business, be prepared for a lot of learning and a lot of hard work. It will pay off for you at the end, but before you start seeing serious results be prepared for serious work. Things that you need to learn and be very good at in order to make money online are:
1. Ability to build a good website that converts well.
2. Ability to do proper search engine optimization. Get the real picture about online business - in most cases only 1 - 3 people out of 100 visitors to your website will actually buy what you are selling. Therefore, you will need a lot of traffic to earn some good money. Search engines can send you a lot of visitors and potential buyers but you need to do proper SEO to achieve good ranks for your websites.
3. Ability to survive a lot of trials and errors of picking the right products, merchants and learning the correct ways of promoting them.
Too many people out there jump into online business and affiliate marketing fooled that this is a easy work and get rich quick type of job. Let me disappoint you - it is not and it will never be! So, don't get fooled by various programs out there that promote them self in this way. They will only rip you off. Use your brain - who would be so stupid to give you thousands of dollars monthly for doing nothing? Would you do that? I didn't think so.
How long you will need to learn and work hard to be able to see some serious income depends on many factors, but mostly depends on you. If you are a quick learner and really put yourself into it, in a 6 months time you could be making a steady monthly income of $500 or more. Don't hold me for that. Some people could be making $5,000 in 6 months time, while others could be making only $50 after six months. There is no strict rule for that.
If you decide to jump into affiliate marketing and online business and give it a try, prepare yourself for the first few months that will be the hardest challenge for you and your business. Your stats will probably be very poor and you will be asking yourself is all that work worth it. But, although you don't see any sales in the first period, don't give up. You need to stay committed to your hard work, learning and dedication, and you need to wait for at least six months before making final decision about the future of your online job.
The biggest factor in affiliate marketing on which will your success depends is the traffic that comes to your websites. As I already said, only small portion of the traffic that comes to your website will be actual buyers. If you can convert 1 - 3 buyers from 100 of visitors, that would be great for you, but also count on the fact that percent of buyers depends on the quality of your traffic. If you have traffic from some shitty sources, conversions could more likely be like 1 - 3 buyers from 1,000 or 10,000 visitors.
The most important thing in affiliate marketing is knowing your visitors, their thoughts, behavior and what they expect from you. If you know all that you will be able to determine which products you can offer them to meet their needs. You will also need to learn how to pre-sell, which, in nutshell, is the ability to transform your visitors into potential buyers, to put them in the required state of mind and prepare them for buying whatever you have to offer.
Also, be prepared for learning more about the business. Affiliate marketing is not something that can be learned from a 100 pages e-book. It's the business where you have so much thing to learn along the way and don't fail on that - be prepared to learn! Even force yourself to learn more and more, as much as you can. If you put enough of the time and effort into your programs, you will be on the solid way to making your online business profitable and to actually become successful in affiliate marketing.
