Pass the first stage

Success is not about defeating an opponent, but to defeat the inferior complexity in you. You can reach out, move out, or voice out! Learn to acknowledge your own efforts, remember that the people say things to belittle you, or discourage you; they do not even remember saying that to you. You keep it in your mind; it will only deteriorate your mindset, to win yourself.

Destructive powers

Constant competition produces stress from constantly thinking of how to win. If you are aware that the pyramid structure in competition is very narrow as you climb to the top, layer by layer, occupantsget squeezed inside.

There will be no contentment as the next goal for 'another' win comes towards you, quickly. In other cases:

-A friend who has success; make you feel bad about yourself -Your ego, shrinks when compared to a higher achieved student or family member; in academics. -Judgment of oneself depending on categories others set for all.

Win one, but there is many more

Try, but get 'defeated' in the quest for perfection, you feel tired, sad, hopeless as you constantly try to meet those 'unfeasible planned achievements' you set for yourself, or worst, others set this level of standards; to meet!

This is what the 'rat race' churns out, people trying to outdo each other for the big, bigger, huge or gigantic piece of cheese. Yes, I admit, I fell hard, so I can tell the effects.

So win, yourself!

Do what you can do, excel at something you know you are good at, set reachable goals and SPEAK UP, YOU HAVE A VOICE!

Stanley Lai is a cancer survivor who achieved in an awkward way and lived on. He now writes articles to inspire others and help them to overcome challenges in life; and living in Singapore.

In reality, not everything in life goes the way we want it to, we learn, and adapt to the changes or overcome challenges ahead with new strategies. We need to learn on the go; from people around us.
