The Market For Horses

With the economy in a real rut, you need a lot of fingers to tally up all the businesses that have hit the down slope when it comes to turning a profit. One of the those that has been hardest hit is the horse market.

Men and women who have been breeding horses and selling them responsibly for many years are noting that the markets they have relied on for years are drying up. This is true for trainers and other equestrians as well.

One breed in particular that has seen a decline in stallion services and sales is the beautiful Arabian. These days you can pick up a quality Arabian horse for far less than you could even a few years ago. And this is true throughout the United States. We are talking about horses with excellent conformation, pedigree and health. And it doesn't make a difference if the horse is a mare or a stallion or even a foal.

Horse lovers are simply not able to spend as much money on their beloved equines as they once were. This means that there are plenty more opportunities for people who are willing to spend money to pick up real bargains.

In fact, you might find that the cost of transporting a horse is going to exceed the cost of purchasing it - a phenomenon unheard of for a long time.

Quite frankly, if you are getting ready to enter the market, there has never been a better time. You can find horses with great show records, super adaptibility for training, good experience with the show ring or working with children, or whatever it is that you need. You can afford to be picky because the market is a buyer's market, and you are in luck.

But remember that just because the prices are falling you are still under an ethical obligation to be sure that the horse you purchase is right for you. You don't want to add to the problem of unwanted horses because you rushed into buying one. Be sure you can afford it. Be sure that you have the time and energy to work with it.

In other words, the buyer's market is not a reason to ease up on your responsibility to these majestic creatures. The current market conditions are favorable for purchasing a horse. If you are ready to add to your herd, the time is perfect. But be sure that you are ready for such an important purchase.
