The List of Small Things

Expert Author Vanessa Ann Lea

Yes, people prefer to have things big. They'd rather have a big car, a big bag, a big house... But somehow, things turn the other way around when they become animals. Rather than annoying or impractical like what we usually feel in other things, people find small animals cute and even consider them pets. In this article, grab the chance to take a look at some famous small animals, some you would happily adopt as pets, some, you would like to just look at, but leave the breeding to the zoologists.

A Brookesia Minima chameleon is one of the smallest reptiles in the world. It can measures under an inch long, and is mainly found in Madagascar. It generally looks like a standard chameleon, only it has shrunk to an inch.

In fishes, there is the Paedocypris Carp, the world's smallest fish, found in peat swamps of Sumatra. Adult carps can grow for as long as 7.9 millimeters, and possess a rudimentary skull, leaving their brains exposed. Sadly enough, this species is at great risk of extinction.

Making it in the list of small animals are the bee hummingbirds, the smallest bird in the world. These 1.8 grams and 2 inches tall birds are mainly found in Cuba.

A recent newly discovered snake in 2008 was branded the smallest in the world. The Leptotyphylops carlae was found in Barbados, and can curl up comfortably on a quarter. They feed primarily on the larvae of ants and other insects.
