The Life of a Long Distance Truck Driver

To see the country from the vantage point of sitting ten feet off the ground would be interesting. I wonder if they still see the different States, counties and towns or if after awhile they just all run together. At some point when they were new, newly hired truck drivers, enticed by a driver recruiter they must have watched with wonder our great Country floating by. After years of the same roads, same towns and same truck stops, do they still see what is out there and appreciate it? I am sure it varies from driver to driver. A temp driver would look with new eyes, drinking it all in. A seasoned
truck driver might not still be seeing. But then again, maybe not, maybe the truck drivers see everything and are the ones to notice if something is amiss or out of place. I know they have helped to find many runaways, criminals on the run and have helped the police in different capacities because they do know the highways and byways of this great land of ours.

Did the signs "Now hiring truck drivers" resonate in their soul until they came of age to apply? I am sure for some this was exactly the case for some. I love to see the large truck stops when all those beautiful rigs are parked side by side for the night, some with their park lights on. They look so peaceful, tired and companionable sleeping lined up under the stars in some remote town. There is a peace and I am sure a feeling of belonging in those truck herds. Snuggled up in their home away from home, what is life really like for them?
