If you are reading this then chances are you know what the laying horses strategy entails, however if you do not I will quickly go over it for you. When you lay a horse you are saying that it will not win the race, if it wins you will lose if one of the other horses wins you will win simple as that!

This means in a 12 horse race you have 11 horses racing for you and only 1 horse racing against you. So the odds are WITH you instead of AGAINST you when you lay a horse.

The only problem with laying horses is with the way that they are selected. A lot of beginner punters will lay the outsider in every race because they have very little chance of winning. The problem with this laying system is that once an outsider does come in you are set to take a big hit to your bankroll. Take an example of laying off 50/1 outsiders for £10, just the one outside winner coming in and your bankroll will take a hit for £500, not so easy to just shrug off is it!

The real trick to making money through laying horses is to lay off the favourite. Yes I know I hear you saying but the favourite is going to win more often that not. This is why you do not make bets on every race, in a day you should be laying only one or two favourites that you believe are underpriced and are therefore good value.
