The Key to Online Business, Finding Your USP

Expert Author MJ Schrader

You probably know your online business niche. Perhaps you know all about your niche or are learning everything you can. As long you are learning about your niche, you know more than someone else, but what is your USP?

What is USP?

Your USP is your Unique Selling Proposition or Unique Selling Point. While knowing about your niche is important, you need to have a unique selling proposition, a unique voice for your online business. Each time you are in front of your clients or customers; even if all you are selling is your blog voice, you are making a proposition, a presentation of facts or seeming facts about your information.

When do you need a Unique Selling Proposition?

Unless you picked a market with no competition your voice needs to be different. If you picked out a market with no competition you might want to re-visit what defines a market that will be popular enough to be self-sustaining. So the best time to cultivate your USP is when you get started it. By starting then you are able to determine the angle that is best for you.

How do I determine my USP?

Look at your competition, then decide how your selling proposition is different. If it is not different how can you make your point unique. Remember different people have different needs and wants. Then you need to decide how you can sell your product, or niche in a way that is unique from the competition.

Where can I see an example?

Think about the commercials or other advertisements for toilet paper. One paper holds up better than the competition, another says it is softer. Another is thicker so you can use less. There is an environmentally friendly kind. Each of these are unique selling points that make the brand stand out from the other.

Why does a USP help?

Perhaps money is not an object for you. Companies with enough money do not worry about creating a USP. These companies simply push their messages and ads in front of as many people as possible as often as possible. But for others they find a unique focus, which helps them target a specific target audience, and develop a USP to suit them. This allows them to spend less money and reach the audience easier and for less. This brings you greater profitability!
