"Big is out, thin is in." - Mike Sorrentino (aka "The Situation")
What gives the guys on Jersey Shore such impressive physiques?
Do they follow a particular Jersey Shore workout that anyone can use to sculpt terrific abs? Now that the long-awaited second season is almost here, I figured I might write a few words and give my thoughts on the subject. In my opinion, their results are due to more than just what goes on when they hit the gym. Nobody who has ever watched an episode of Jersey Shore could ignore the incredible physiques of the guys. How is it all possible? The guys on the show are frequently shown indulging in highly caloric Italian dinners, boardwalk snacks, late-night pizza and limitless amounts of alcohol. They are hardly paragons of dietary virtue. Therefore, what could possibly account for their impressive bodies? Their secret is actually quite fundamental. One short phrase: calorie deficit.
Considering that these dudes eat as recklessly as they act, it is surprising that they are not obese. But, it is important to realize that their intake is only part of the picture. While it is certainly true that they put in their time at the gym, that is not the end of the story. These guys also spend a great deal of time walking to almost all of their destinations. They dance late into the night, fist-pump and find countless other ways to burn excess calories. Briefly stated, they burn more calories than they consume.
Are there lessons we can take from their experience?
In fact, the Jersey Shore guys actually do adhere to a successful exercise regimen. They are able to build muscle through consistent weight training and can lose large amounts of fat through walking during the day and intense dancing and carousing through the evening hours. Such a schedule is so good at burning fat that they are essentially able to eat anything they wish.
When all is said and done, a calorie deficit is what is required in order to sculpt an impressive body.
This is a fact plainly demonstrated by the Jersey Shore guys. Sadly, not many people are able to sleep late each day and workout in the afternoon prior to heading out to a club for a night of vigorous partying and dancing. Therefore, we also are unable to eat whatever we want, whenever we want it. Anyone who tried that would probably find their way onto The Biggest Loser, rather than Jersey Shore. The guys of Jersey Shore are able to live a lifestyle few have ever known, or at least have not been able to enjoy since childhood.
What are our options?
Several methods for creating a caloric deficit exist, but for most people, the simplest is just to reduce food intake. There is one method, in particular, that is so easy that everyone can begin to follow it immediately. It is not even necessary to create a shopping list. Intermittent fasting is the method to which I refer. The expert on this method is named Brad Pilon. He has a terrific e-book called Eat Stop Eat outlining the critical facts about intermittent fasting and how it functions.
Many have succeeded in gaining the sort of body most people desire by using the intermittent fasting method. I find it amusing to thing that "the Situation" and friends are among those who have succeeded with this technique, even if they did not know that's what they were using. There was no secret Jersey Shore workout that got them to where they are. All they really did was create a caloric deficit, which is something that everyone can accomplish. But, most folks will have to create theirs in a different way. All this time you thought Jersey Shore had no redeeming value. How wrong you were!
