The Importance of Self Worth

Expert Author Stephen Zaba

The importance of self worth should never be underestimated. What you feel about yourself shows up in most things that you do and what you are willing to attempt. An acceptance to yourself that you are worthy has to be achieved first, before you believe to yourself that others will see this as well. You must first believe in yourself and then others will believe in you also.

Nothing has ever been achieved or obtained without an inner self worth of one self. When anyone forms any kind of relationship, whether it be platonic or otherwise, if they do not feel worthy of being in the same company of any individual or group of people, they will not gain the respect of others and ultimately any relationship will be doomed to failure. Being worthy of yourself can be the difference between all success and failure.

Would you ever see a performer on stage that does not feel worthy of playing to the audience or an athlete that does not feel they are worthy of being among the other competitors? No matter how proficient or competent a person is in whatever they do, the importance of self worth is an underlying factor in attempting anything worthwhile. Without it, there is a feeling of inferiority and a definite barrier to success.

The important thing to understand is all of us have the ability to make any decision that we want and become anything that we want to. It is our thoughts that determine our destiny and while there are those that like nothing more than eat away at our confidence and try to make us feel worthless, it is ourselves that decide to either feel worthy about everything that we do or continually ebb away at our own self worth.

It is not only the importance of self worth for ourselves, but also for our immediate family and close friends. How we feel about ourselves can affect the people that are closest to us. The way we feel and act is usually portrayed by our own family, especially our children. When we are happy, they are happy and when there is something wrong, they feel it to.

The worst thing about feeling worthless about ourselves is that it can have a negative and everlasting effect on our children. Because they see that the people they look up to and think of as giants in their lives have a definite lack of self worth, in turn this can then follow them throughout their own lives and have a negative impact on them also.
