The Importance of Selecting the Best Photographer

When I began to consider a career in modeling I knew it was going to be difficult to break into the industry and get "found." I just didn't know it was nearly impossible, or at least I thought it was given my initial success. I had the drive to succeed, but not the proper vehicle to transport me.

After I began to get discouraged about my lack of progress, I decided to pursue another way to gain experience. I found a mentor to act as their assistant. Once I got to know my mentor she took a vested interest in my dreams and decided to actively help me get noticed by agents to boost my marketability. I was blessed to learn perhaps the most valuable lesson of my career - a mediocre portfolio will keep you from achieving your goals.

She got me in touch with the leading Miami photographer for models years ago and I attribute all my success to his shots. The main reason I found his work went above and beyond my previous photographer's shots: he specialized in glamour, lingerie, fashion and swimsuit areas exclusively, which enabled me to gain a well-rounded portfolio of work.

I naively thought the portfolio shots staged by an all around photographer (weddings, family shots, portraits, nature, etc.) would suffice. They were good pictures, but they lacked the sizzle and spark to separate me from every other modeling candidate vying for the same jobs I was.

The investment you make in working with a skill photographer will pay off. It made all the difference in the world for me!
