The Horses Age Does Not Matter
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

When you go to buy an equine, the age does not matter too much. However, you do not want one that is excessively old and you cannot do anything with. What does matter is the equines' temperament and personality.

You want a horse that is gentle and that will do what ever you ask him to do when you ask it of him. If you need him to work all day with cattle then he will gladly give his all to you. If you ask him to take you on a three-day trail ride, he will do this as well.

You do not want to put him at risk by asking an older horse that is no capable of working all day in the sun to work all day in the sun. This could kill him or severely damage him. Therefore, you need the appropriate activity for the appropriate age equine.

The only time you should consider the equines age is when determining what he will be, used for in the first place. If the horse is to be, used to perform in the rodeo arena to rope head and heal, run barrels, or steer wrestling, even calf roping then the horse should be young and fresh. The equine should be around a three to five year old.

If the horse is to be, used as a pleasure equine for trail riding then he will probably not be doing much strenuous working. Just simple daily riding over longer periods and different terrain then a five to a nine-year-old equine can easily do this.

If you want a horse that will just walk around with children on his or her back then a much older horse older than a nine year old will be nice and slow for the kids to ride.

If you are an inexperienced rider and you are looking for your first equine you do not want a two or a three-year-old stallion this is way, too much horse for a begging rider. A nice gentle four or five year old gelding will do for a beginner horse. This type equine is gentle enough for you to learn how to ride well. Then as your riding improves the horse is still young enough to trot, gallop, the both of you can do many things together.

The horse age does not matter he is still your friend and your helper if you ask an older horse to do something he will no matter what but remember you could be putting him or her at risk.
