The Greatest Los Angeles Clippers of All-Time

Expert Author Jack T Jones

The LA Clippers are known as a franchise that has gone through more than its fair share of struggles. Since 1984, the team has only had six winning seasons. The Clippers franchise was founded in 1970 (then named the Buffalo Braves). The location and name was changed in 1978 to the San Diego Clippers, and the location was again changed in 1984 to the Clippers' current home in Los Angeles. The list of great players does not run deep for the Clippers, but notable players to come through the franchise include Corey Maggette, Elton Brand, Danny Manning, Charles Smith and Ron Harper. Those that have made my list as the top three Clippers so far in franchise history are Corey Maggette, Danny Manning and Elton Brand.

No. 3: Corey Maggette (2000 - 2008)

Corey Maggette is the Clippers' all-time leader in free throws made and attempted and he averaged over 20 points per game in three of the eight seasons he was in Los Angeles. Injuries prevented this explosive player from meeting his full potential, but he's still deserving enough to be on the short-list of the best players to ever wear a Clippers uniform to this point.

No. 2: Danny Manning (1988 - 1994)

Danny Manning was named to the NBA All-Star team on two separate occasions. Drafted first overall in the 1998 NBA Draft, Manning managed to average a respectable 14.0 points per game throughout his career. With the Clippers being a playoff-deprived franchise, his greatest accomplishment may have been when he managed to lead the team to the playoffs in the 1992-1993 season, a season in which he averaged 22.8 points per game.

No. 1: Elton Brand: (2001 - 2008)

The greatness of Elton Brand never got much attention due to the poor teams he played on. The exceptional blocker played seven seasons at the LA Clippers, averaging 18.2 points per game, 9.3 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. His best season was 2005-2006 when he averaged 25 points per game and 10 total rebounds per game. Brand was the Clippers best player, becoming their all-time leader in rebounds, being named to two NBA All-Star teams and receiving one All-NBA selection.

The LA Clippers haven't had many successful seasons in the NBA. The future, however, looks much more promising for this Los Angeles team. Current Clippers such as Blake Griffin and Chris Paul should soon shred this list to pieces.
