The First Thanksgiving Feast

Ever wonder when the first Thanksgiving Feast was? Well the first Feast was not called Thanksgiving at all, but it was a huge feast with all the members of the Colony and over 90 Indians. It was after the 1621 harvest in Plymouth.

Leading the feast and Colony were William Bradford and Edward Winslow, who were both leaders of the Colony. They did not have such large buildings in the Colony back then so the event was outside and it lasted for three days. The Plymouth Colony was set up after all the Pilgrims had landed on Plymouth Rock when they came to the new World on the Mayflower.

Although the 1621 3-day harvest feast was not called Thanksgiving most Historians agree that they may have had Turkey on those days and it would have been roasted, as they did not have the type of appliances we have today back then.

Historians also can tell from the written accounts by Edward Winslow that they ate things like Venison, which was brought by the Indians, as well as Duck, turkey, swan, bread, pie, pumpkins and many other vegetables.

The Early Plantation had all sorts of varieties of food and they ate plenty indeed. They certainly did have something to be thankful for and so do you for what they started. Think on this.
