The Facts About Koi Fish Carp

The koi fish carp, or simply koi in Japanese is a more improved version of a common carp. It is different because unlike the common carp, which are usually black or gray, they have different colors. They are commonly used as ornaments for water and garden ponds. Although it did not originally came in Japan, according to historians. Its cultivation and breeding mutation has been successfully done there. That is why is it famously known as Japanese koi and now, it has already been transported to other parts of the world.

To date, there are more than 20 varieties of koi. These have been the results of the efforts and constant practice of koi-caring professionals and enthusiasts' selective breeding, crossbreeding, and application of classified methods and techniques.

These are the known varieties of Japanese koi that known to most parts of the world. The names of these koi were taken from Japanese translations that corresponds to their specifications, color, patterns, scales and combination of color and breed. The names are as follows:

· Kohaku

· Taisho Sanke

· Showa Sanke

· Asagi

· Ogon

· Bekko

· Kinginrin

They are known because of their vibrant colors, scales and patterns. Some breeds also change their color depending on the temperature of water, which black koi fish are especially known of. The more it is being taken care of like proper water filtration, food and aeration, the more it can exude its beauty and natural color. The most common colors of koi fish are as follows:

· White

· Black

· Orange

· Red

· Yellow

· Cream

· Light Blue

· Gray

The color of the koi may be plain or in combination with other colors. More often, the more unique the variety is, the more expensive it gets. Koi prices may depend also in the size of the fish. The most sought after koi breed is the Black koi, simply because of its likeness that of an ancient dragon in Japanese paintings.

Japanese koi fish can live more than its usual life span and it can grow up to four feet. Koi fish are to be strong, this is because of its resilience to live even under a tough weather condition, cold water temperature, and even in not so clean water. They are easy to take of primarily because it can eat anything, be it meat, vegetables or more importantly, koi fish food.
