Botox treatments are today's wonder cure against deepening and multiplying of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Its popularity is such that the yearly average of Botox injections is more than 2 million. The downside to this treatment is its transitory effects. Hence, anyone who's considering Botox injections to smooth away the frown lines and wrinkles on their faces always expresses this question, "how long does Botox last?"
In reality, Botox is a natural poison coming from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. A lot of research has been conducted on it since it was established as a toxic food that, when taken in great amounts, causes acute gastrointestinal trouble.
While conducting their studies, researches discovered that, when injected in minute quantities, Botox temporarily paralyzes the facial nerves and muscles. Hence, certain facial mannerisms will cease to be done. Facial lines are created from these same facial mannerisms or habits.
Frowning or eyebrow lifting create deep lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows. To minimize these lines, the plastic surgeon injects Botox into the forehead or over the nose bridge. Botox will restrict these expressions and do away with the regular scrunching of the skin that causes these lines. As time passes, the lines will recede and the skin will take on a more youthful look.
Lines from the sides of the nose to around the mouth caused by puckering the mouth can also be reduced by Botox when it is injected into the areas around the nose and mouth by the cosmetic/plastic surgeon.
Excessive sweating condition, called hyperhydrosis, can also be reduced or removed by Botox. The injections will numb the sweat glands in the face, hands and underarms. Even migraines and nerve spasm conditions are treated with Botox injections by some physicians.
Botox can work right after the treatment, but in some the full effects do not come out until after several days. These effects begin to subside after 3 or 4 months, which would call for another round of treatments for you.
There are some patients who reported that after a number of sessions, each treatment endures for 6 months or even longer. Besides, even after the Botox effect has worn off, your skin would already have regenerated a bit and thus, the lines will not be as deep.
