The Energy to Create

Anyone who is already pursuing a big life goal can tell you, as I will, that it requires a monumental amount of energy. Energy is not only required to work towards the achievement of that goal, but to keep you in sound body, mind and soul as well as motivated upon the journey towards a better life. So where is that energy to come from?

Here are some tips to help you create and maintain the energy to attain your worthy goals:

1. Meditate. Saying you don't have time is not acceptable. Meditation creates time, as the lovely Marianne Williamson says. It helps you focus; it stops you from going off in unnecessary directions that waste time; and it provides the energy to keep you going, despite the obstacles that appear (and no matter how "good" a person you are, they will appear!)

2. Eliminate sugar. Do you hate me yet? Ha! Sugar (and other stimulants like caffeine) provides energy much like a line of credit - you aren't drawing from anything you actually have, and the more you draw, the harder it is to get back in black.

3. Exercise. Quick and effective exercise done regularly will stimulate your metabolism and create the extra energy you need to achieve your very best. Try "bursting": running, swimming, biking, etc. AS HARD AS YOU CAN until you can't do anymore, stop to rest briefly, then do it again. Repeat this 3-5 times 3 times per week.

4. Find a way to delegate, do or delete one item that's been on your to-do list for a long time, and do it TODAY! If you find cleaning your toilets a huge energy drain, delegate it. If you are on a committee that is depleting you of valuable energy you could be directing elsewhere, delete it (but make the phone call NOW). If you have been putting off an important phone call, for the love of all things beautiful, MAKE THE CALL. You will be amazed at how much energy is freed up by having these items off your list!

5. Breathe. No seriously. I know it's free and it's simple and therefore you don't want to do it;) but it is absolutely vital for high energy. Deep belly breaths, moving your belly out when you breathe in, and making sure your breaths are nice and slow and relaxed is key, but it takes practice. Start with 3 "sets" of ten deep breaths a day.

6. Eat your protein! Man, I see a lot of low protein, low fat, high starch diets out there, and they are not doing your energy any favours! Eat protein at each meal, limit to one small serving of starch (includes potatoes, rice, pasta, grains, starchy veggies like carrots), and add healthy fat.

These tips should get you well on your way to greater energy and focus so you can work on creating and achieving your worthy goals (and your dream life!)
