People who play piano may be categorized as traditional pianists or new-age pianists. Their passion for music binds them as catalysts of art. However, there are various ways they differ. These differences contribute to the beauty of music the world enjoys. And these differences mark the kind of identities they want to create in the world of music.

• Traditional Pianists
Traditional pianists spend four years in a University learning how to play the piano. They spend two to three more years for a post-graduate degree in music. Inside the academe, they study other people's music. They are taught how to play famous compositions from mostly dead composers. And they have to play them right. They re-create art. They copy. They re-live the artistic expressions of musicians who lived before them.

The world is fortunate to have these traditional pianists. Their re-creative art gives people the chance to listen to classical music. They bring the world to get a taste and feel of the classics. If it weren't for traditional pianists, no one will carry on the sounds of the past.

• New-Age Pianists
New-age pianists spend more time in front of their computers or DVDs learning how to play the piano. They study music in the comforts of their homes. Some of them listen to their favorite contemporary music and play along on their pianos. Some of them use their computers and follow instructions from online websites to play music. Some of them watch piano lesson DVDs and begin to play the musical instrument. The new-age pianists are a diverse group of people. The new-age pianists connect with their source and allow music to come out. They create their own expressions. They live the artistic representation of their own music. They have their own identity.

The world is lucky to have these new-age pianists. They create a brand new breed of music. Their creative art gives people the chance to hear a different kind of sound. New-Age pianists lead the world into original artistry. If it weren't for new-age pianists, no one will carry the sounds of the future.

Traditional pianists and new-age pianists may differ in so many ways. However, one thing is certain and that is their love for music. They may create or re-create. They may sound new or classic. Still, they are agents of artistry yesterday, today and tomorrow.
