The Difference Between A Gravatar Image and A Logo

Expert Author Jeremiah Carstarphen

As a cartoonist, images are very important to my business. I enrolled in school to earn a degree in Computer Graphics and Animation this year. Being involved in the Home Business Industry for several years, I sort of used it as an excuse for dropping out college twice. The ironic thing is that I did not drop out because it was difficult. I had 3.7 GPA the first time and a 4.0 GPA the second time. I think part of the reason I dropped out is because I heard all of the success stories of people who became millionaires without a college degree...some without even finishing high school.

So I just wrote school off as a waste of time. It's funny how it took it took losing everything I had, being homeless, becoming disabled, and living without an income, below the poverty line, for two years, to come full circle, and be able to focus on my passion.

You may be wondering what this has to do with a Gravatar image. Well for the longest I have been confused as to how to price my services. Well that is no longer a question after my first week of school.

I have learned so much in such a short period of time. I think the main reason is because my desire to learn, and thirst for knowledge is greater today than it has ever been at any point in my life.

3 Differences Between A Gravatar Image and a Logo.

Image Resolution - This means how clear your image is when it is viewed at the actual size. Since a Gravatar image is web-based, it should have a lower resolution. A logo should have a much higher image since you will need to print it.

The ideal resolution for your Gravatar image is 72 dpi (dots per inch). The ideal resolution for a logo is 300 dpi.

Photoshop vs. Illustrator - Adobe Photoshop is better for creating a Gravatar image and Adobe Illustrator is best for creating a logo.

Offline vs. Online - We already mentioned this when we talked about image resolution.

Your Gravatar image should be the exact same image as your logo. The only exception would be the image resolution (size). Using only one or the other is effective, but you will be limiting your brand exposure, just like you will be limiting your business growth potential if you only used either online or offline marketing strategies.
