The Dangers of Coffee

Drinking coffee is one of the most popular activities in our busy days. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning with the smell of coffee in the air. It is the kind of smell that perks you up and gives you courage to face the day. However, drinking coffee is not as healthy as we once thought it to be, and I have listed a couple of reasons below as to why we should stop drinking coffee.

After drinking coffee for sustained periods, the body's tolerance to caffeine increases. This means that you have to drink more of the stuff to get the same effect. An experiment was done involving a group of people split into two groups. One group drank a cup of strong coffee every day for three weeks while the other group was given a placebo. After the three-week period, the two groups were measured for alertness, and surprise- surprise, there was no difference between the two. Coffee is bad for the liver. Caffeine is broken down by the liver through the use of enzymes. The problem is that it overwhelms the liver by giving it so much to do that it does not have time to break down other chemicals in the bloodstream. Excessive caffeine use causes the liver to work less efficiently and therefore increases the risk of elevated toxins in the body. One or 2 cups of coffee per day is fine, anything more than that is excessive.

In a study reported by the BBC recently, it was revealed that people who drink too much coffee could start hallucinating by seeing ghosts and hearing strange voices. The study also found that people who drank more than seven cups of instant coffee per day, were three times more likely to hallucinate than people who drank one cup per day. Perhaps the most well-known side-effect of drinking coffee is sleep deprivation. The average human being needs eight hours of sleep every night. Drinking coffee after five o'clock in the afternoon on top of normal day stress and anxiety can lead to a serious sleep disorder.

Coffee can turn into an addiction, and it can also steal energy from you instead of giving it to you. Excessive use of coffee can also trigger other problems and cause heart palpitations, anxiety and depression. One of the greater dangers of coffee, is that it is a diuretic. Many people believe that drinking a glass of water a day should include the intake of coffee. Nothing could be further from the truth, because every time you drink a cup of coffee, you add to your deficit of the daily water requirements. Caffeine also promotes depletion of potassium and can cause a mineral imbalance in the human body.

In addition to all of the above, coffee is a chemical weapon in itself in that it contains hundreds of acids that can cause havoc in the human body. So the next time you feel the urge to pick up a cup of Java, consider very carefully how it can impact on your health.

One book that I found very interesting and highly recommend is the best selling book, "The 9 Steps to Keep the Doctor Away", which is written by Dr Rashid Buttar. Here you will learn in great detail the effects that various vices have on our bodies. For more information on the bestselling book by Dr Rashid Buttar, please visit: http://www.the9steps.com
