The Creative Family - A Book by Amanda Blake Soule

Expert Author Sara Duggan

The Creative Family is a lovely cup of tea on a chilly night. Amanda Blake Soule takes you in first with her lovely photographs and then with her beautiful writing. She makes it sound so easy but it is all intentional on her part for the sake of her children.

This book is an eco-friendly how-to homemaking book with a dash of Waldorf Inspired living thrown in. First she concentrates on the self because we all know if mama is unhappy then no one is happy. Second, she focuses on the life of the child and brings you into their world of creativity. Third she brings in the entire family unit sharing what her family does to make each day count. Finally, Amanda brings it full circle when she invites you to venture outside of the family and into the community.

Within each unit Self, Child, Family and Community Amanda shares simple things you can do to bring the natural world into your home, your spirit, and into your relationships. She includes various crafts which you can do to bring beauty into you daily living space.

I loved this entire book. Some activities I will be integrating into your daily life as a family are listed below.

1. Inspiration Wire

2. Upcycling

3. Natural Dying

4. Playing

5. Imagination

6. Art Showcase

7. Bedtime Bags

8. Rhythm or Everyday Rituals

9. Connecting

10. Craftivism

A great book with simple everyday things you can do to bring Love and Creativity into your life as a family as well as into the lives of your community. Amanda Soule also has a blog [amandasoule.com] in which she shares more about her daily life always including a photograph or quote that will make your soul yearn to create with your children, your family, your community and simply with yourself.
