The Cleveland Indians' Horrible 2009 Season

Just two short years ago (though it seems like longer), the Cleveland Indians handily defeated the New York Yankees in a playoff series. Remember the one with all the gnats in the air? How long ago does that seem?

To put things into perspective, CC Sabathia was a Cleveland Indian (he's now a Yankee, ironically), and Fausto Carmona finished fourth overall in Cy Young voting.

The team is now without Sabathia, without Cliff Lee, the one bright spot about its 2008 season, and Fausto Carmona simply can't pitch good baseball anymore. Following a 2008 season marred by injury, Carmona has struggled to find his way with the Indians this season, as he currently has a 3-11 record with a 6.58 earned run average. Does it get much worse than that?!

Unfortunately, this record is indicative of the Indians' season. It's not just Carmona losing ball games left and right. The Indians are sharing the last place position in an already weak AL Central division with the Kansas City Royals, and have now dropped 8 consecutive games.

Things just don't look good for the Indians and their fans. Sure, there's Grady Sizemore, but there isn't much more offense behind him. Travis Hafner's power has virtually disappeared (he only has 15 home runs this season), and even Sizemore's production has taken a big hit. With just a .248 average and 18 home runs, he hasn't exactly met expectations placed upon him. On top of that, he's out the rest of the season due to injury.

Well, at least they have the Cavs.
