It is not out of place, seeing all that happen in the Church today, to still say that the Church Jesus built cares for your soul. When Jesus made the promise, "I will build my Church", He did not focus on the cathedral-type building, neither did He mean, just a mystical ecclesiastical organization. The Church is the people.
During His earthly ministry, He put people into His Church, the moment they got saved. In fact, He did simply put them in the Church, but He constantly added them to the Church daily such as were being saved. Peter wrote to members of that Church, reminding them of their commitments, as living stones, who are built up as a spiritual house - an elected race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession - so that they may show forth the excellencies of God who called them out of darkness into His marvelous light. This is very necessary because in time past they were no people, not in any way regarded by the society, but now they have become people of God - loved and cared for, not minding their former societal status.
Because Christ remembered these people and called them into the Church which He built so as to love and care for them, the people in return, become themselves people that care for others. They care enough to study and preach the truth of the gospel, which says: "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believe and is baptized shall be saved". The Church cares enough to tell the truth. Her mission is to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ. That gospel, according to Apostle Paul, is "the power of God unto salvation" for lost sinners, and like Christ, His Church wants all men to be saved.
The Church teaches Christ's gospel in the services they regularly conduct, in special events at various times during the year, from house to house, and in every other way they can. Whenever you see God's children knocking on your door, it is not just to interrupt your day, but they have come to invite you to their place of worship, to talk to you about Jesus, and encourage you to give your life to Him, because they care for your soul. The Church emphasizes the fact to love God, His Word and people, more than we love ourselves. Those who are in Christ are not to love the natural life which they received from Adam. So long as they love that life and live according to its dictates and desires, there cannot be a living relationship with God. Those who persist in this state will lose their lives (they will be lost).
The Churches teaches us that this life with all its lusts is a hindrance to God's children, and so they must learn to hate it. By acknowledging this condition, we are brought to the point where we meet the Saviour, who can grant us eternal life. Whoever that has been saved in this way will always be filled with the desire to serve the Lord and Master and follow His footsteps, which is characterized by self-denial and suffering. The Church has no other mandate than being the mouth-piece of Christ on earth, caring and loving the people of God. As Christ cares for your soul, so also does His Church.
