If you ever take a poll of the best comedy actors out there, odds are you'll get lots of mentions of Jim Carrey. Simply put, Jim Carrey is hilarious. He rakes in the cash too, which isn't surprising considering his widespread appeal.
But people have a hard time settling on the actor's best work. Everybody has a different opinion, and given the number of wildly successful films he's been in, people have a hard time picking one.
Take a quick look at his first two successes: The Mask and the original Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Those movies established Jim Carrey as a household name, but his career wasn't made there. He rode those successes on to even better films that have kept him at the top of the film biz ever since.
Take a look at Dumb and Dumber, which followed just a year later. That has to be among the best of Jim Carrey's films ever. He starred with Jeff Daniels as a dimwitted loser, Lloyd Christmas, who convinces his companion to follow the woman of his dreams across the country.
Following that film came a series of one-offs, such as Me, Myself and Irene and the Cable Guy. These movies did well enough, but didn't quit reach the heights of his previous work. Still, there are those who think these are the best performances ever.
After that, Carrey decided to turn to more serious fare. He starred in movies like the Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, all of which garnered him a fair amount of well-deserved critical praise. They also led to more success.
There are a ton more films we could go through, and hopefully there will continue to be more as the actor continues his career. But there are really too many to sum up here. You undoubtedly have your own faves that will stand the test of time.
