So you're thinking about learning how to play the guitar huh? An excellent choice! The guitar is a very rewarding instrument to play. There are so many different ways to go about the daunting task of learning though. What is the best thing you could possibly do?
Take Private Guitar Lessons From a Good Instructor!
Yes this is the absolute best way to go about learning any instrument. It is better than teaching yourself or using free online methods. There are many things a teacher can do for you that will greatly accelerate how quickly you improve. They can save you hours and hours of useless practice by helping you to avoid bad habits right from the beginning. This ability comes from the lessons that they've learned and been taught that they pass on to you. Learning the guitar these days is easier now than ever.
Having your own guitar instructor is also great because they will get to know your playing really well and can tailor the lesson to your own specific needs. Having a private guitar instructor is like having your own personal trainer.
Another benefit of hiring a private guitar instructor is that they have many musical connections that could help you down the road. They know which other instructors in the area are good. They know what recording studios are good. They often can get you shows if you are interested because most guitar teachers have played in numerous bands and know a lot of people who hire bands. They also might be able to match you up with some fellow students your age to jam with for those who are interested.
As you can see, there are many benefits to hiring a private guitar instructor. Even if you want to learn on your own, it's best to start out learning from somebody else who at the least, knows how to play well. If you don't like your teacher or think that they know how to teach well, don't be afraid to find a new teacher.

I have been a private guitar instructor for over 10 years in the Philadelphia area and Erie, PA and have played the guitar for over 20. I have successfully taught hundreds of people ranging from 5 years old to 80 years old. I have taught many styles of music and I have helped a lot of people develop a love of the guitar. Private guitar instruction is the best way to go but it can be expensive and the quality of the instructors varies greatly. For those who live in small towns there may not be any. If you can't take lessons from me or another good guitar instructor, I suggest that you try one of these guitar systems. Here are my top recommendations for beginners and intermediate level players.
