When is the best time to quit smoking? There is no one right time to stop smoking. The best time for you will depend a lot on what type of personality you have.
If you tend to be spontaneous and often do things on the spur of the moment, then the best time for you to quit smoking is as soon as the idea occurs to you. Don't stop and think about it, just throw away those smokes and go for it.
On the other hand, if you find that routines make life easier and you are the proverbial creature of habit, then you may want to take the time to do some planning prior to quitting. Routines and habits go hand in hand.
So the first step is to record when you smoke throughout a typical weekday as well as on a weekend day. This will allow you to see which of your cigarettes are the result of habit and which aren't. You can then try to first eliminate those cigarettes that are not part of your daily routine. These will be easier to give up because you won't have a sense that something is missing in your day.
After that choose one "routine" cigarette at a time to work on giving up. For instance, if you smoke two cigarettes at lunchtime, try giving up just one of those.Once you've succeeded, then choose another "routine" cigarette to give up.
For the person who likes to plan and be in control, then make quitting just one more thing to take charge of. Plan out what you will need to do, when you will begin and how to implement your strategies. This will keep you in your comfort zone thereby increasing your chances of success.
Regardless of your personality type, with all things considered the best time to stop smoking is when you are ready. After all, what's the worse thing that can happen? If you go smoke-free for even a short time, you may find that you like being smoke-free. Even if you start smoking again you will have at least given your body a break from smoking. But after reading this article, maybe you'll decide that you're ready now!
