There's many, many remedies for the hangover cure purported to work, are they just myths or do they really work?
There's the 'Drink a pint of water before you go out and a pint before bed', there's those that say a good old fry up on the morning after is the top method. Here are a few facts that will help you make up your own mind.
Obviously the best method is prevention, which is always better than a cure! The answer here is simple, don't drink! Without a doubt, this method is guaranteed to work, but if you know you're going to drink then it's not really an option.
The next method is to eat plenty before you begin drinking. A fatty meal comes highly recommended to prevent the hangover. Fatty meals or not recommended for every meal of course!
Fatty food is digested at a slower rate meaning that it can help prevent the lining of the stomach becoming irritated by all that alcohol.
Avoiding drinks that contain larger quantities of 'congeners' comes highly recommended. Drinks that contain high levels are generally the darker ones such as port, dark rum, brandy and red wine and are well known to cause a more severe hangover.
Drinking a non-fizzy soft drink or water between each alcoholic drink comes recommended by many, it's a bit of a myth really, in effect, you drink less alcohol because of the volumes of soft drink and basically end up with a smaller hangover. However, I think it's a way of 'kidding yourself' and it's not really a true hang over cure. With that said, alcohol is known to cause dehydration which in turn produces that hangover symptom of headaches. Taking on more water is obviously going to reduce the dehydration and therefore the hangover headache.
Vitamin C is a great method of encouraging your body to speed up the metabolism and have your liver go to work faster on dealing with the alcohol in your blood, a good source of Vitamin C is freshly squeezed orange juice. Alongside raising your vitamin C levels, eating food in order to raise your blood sugar levels is also a very good idea, this will give your body more energy and help you feel better.
Sleeping lots is a good natural way to cure a hang over, your system is working hard to clear your body of the alcohol, sometimes it's best to just sleep and let it get on with it.
Drinking more alcohol in the morning is known to reduce the hangover effect, but, in reality it's just putting off the pain, it's not recommended especially if you can't put yourself in a situation where you are able to drink the next day.
In conclusion, natural juices, foods and water are the best ways to prevent or cure a hang over coupled with allowing your body to get on and clean itself of the alcohol. Obviously, the best idea of all is just not to drink any alcohol, but if that's not an option consider preventing the hangover with natural hangover prevention and cures.
