The Best Concrete Garage Floor Coatings

Almost all type concrete floors can be coated with some form of coating materials. However, before deciding on the coating type, we have to know the purpose of the coating to be done. In this article the coating is to be applied for the garage floor. In such environment, the concrete floor is always subjected to oily and greasy substances. Besides that, there will be more impact and abrasion inducing activities in this area. Apart from these factors, cost also plays an important role in selection of coating material.

Polymer coating has been one of the most widely used materials for concrete floor coating, especially for industrial flooring. Garage floor does not differ much compared to industrial floor except in term of its size. Polymer coatings also comes in various types; namely the UPR base, epoxy base, polyurethane base, and all these comes with different price tags. Epoxy coatings have been widely used for concrete floor coating and it has very good abrasion resistance.

However, if you're on tight budget; you probably can consider using UPR base coatings. This resin can be bough in two parts, namely the UPR and the hardener. You can mix it as advised by your supplier. The hardeners function is to make the UPR set and harden; therefore, the dosage of your hardener shall be controlled in such that it does not harden too fast, as you wouldn't have sufficient time to finish your coating job. Besides that if hardens too fast, the coating layer might develop some internal cracks due to thermal reactions.

Another advantage of using polymer base coating is that you can add any color you want to your mix before applying it. Just get the color pigments from your polymer supplier, and add it to your polymer mix and stir it till the pigments are homogenously mixed. If you going to open up part of garage for your visitors than you may want to make that area look better; then you can apply a layer of gel coat on your hardened surface of polymer coating.

There is no such thing as best coating material. It is all about what is your purpose of applying the coating and how much you willing to invest.
