Shot blasting consists of blasting the surface of metal with a series of shots sent at high speed to smooth and clean the surface of the metal. It is used in the aircraft, automotive, aerospace and mining industries. In this article we will outline and discuss the benefits of different shot blast machines.
The first shot blast machine we will discuss is a batch type shot machine. These machines are an excellent cost effective solution for tumble proof castings. They offer many variations for the cleaning and handling of the work pieces. These shot blasters are very operational, as well as compact with a high cleaning capacity. The advantages of working with a batch type shot blast machine are that the gentle tumbling will fully expose the surfaces of the work piece and will assist in the reliable removal of any abrasive from the internal passages. There are usually three types of machines in this product range that can be used for the descaling of forgings and the desanding and decoring of castings.
With throughfeed shot blast machines there will be a continuous material flow whilst the machine maintains a consistent quality of cleaning. As the throughfeed machine is continuous in its process, it automates production creating a more human similar working environment. This type of machine is preferred as it reduces the operating costs of blasting because it only requires short transport distances without transitional storage.
Hanger type shot blast machines allow for the desanding and decoring of pieces that are more susceptible to breakages and impact damage. In the metal industry, hanger type shot blast machines are also very commonly used for descaling and reconditioning. The work pieces are transported on hangers, allowing for a good material flow that makes for a functional solution in blast cleaning.
Manipulator shot blast machines are perhaps the most popular of all. This is because they have an excellent blast cleaning effect, cleaning even the interior surfaces that are difficult to reach. There are many applications that assist in solving and successfully completing many different production tasks.
