As a teen, one of the first things you want to start doing is to earn some money of your own, so that you can buy the things you want without having to beg your parents for it. However most teenagers won't be able to get a job since they will be too young to be employed by someone, which means that if they want to earn some money, they will have to think of other ways to get it.

One of the ways some teenagers are doing this is by starting their own business. This allows them to earn some extra cash which they would otherwise not have, and whilst they may not form a business in the traditional sense, they gain themselves some valuable business and financial experience which will subsequently benefit them later in life.

To start a business a teen first needs to decide what they should do. For example, do their skills lie with technology and the internet, or are they better at interacting with people face to face? Whatever skills they have can then be used to determine ways they can make themselves money.

In addition to this, a teen also needs to decide what they are willing to do. Whilst they may have lots of ideas as to the sorts of businesses they could start up, ultimately what they do comes down to what they are willing to do.

For example, you may have a really great idea but if you are not willing to put the hard work and effort into it, then it is unlikely you will succeed at it. So the teen's business plans must always be realistic, and involve something they think they will be able to see through to the end.

Some examples of businesses teenagers commonly start up for themselves include mowing the lawn for people in their neighborhood, babysitting, making or buying products and then selling them on eBay, or starting up a website. All of these are things a young person could easily do, and many teenagers have been able to earn themselves quite a bit of extra money doing them.

Whatever business a teenager sets up, it gives them a taste of what life is like as an adult, since they will be learning to make money for themselves, and will then have to decide what they do with their earnings. So this is something any parent should encourage, as it will be of great benefit to their child later in life.
