It is not unusual or wrong to be a little anxious about having children, and how you would be looking after them. Most people do not receive training to be good parents, thus usually those parenting styles are applied which were either heard by an elder in the family or a friend.

Parenting is a highly important factor in one's life, and if done correctly and adequately, its positive effects on the child remain for the whole life. It can also give confidence to a child.

One of the keys of good parenting styles for your children is to set an example with your own behaviors and attitudes. Children are most likely to imitate the behaviors of their parents during the first few years of their life.

You must have seen a little girl trying to apply lipstick just as her mother does, or a little boy trying to dress up like his father so that he looks more like him. Children try to be like their parents, and if you are displaying positive and healthy behaviors, they are most likely to pick it up.

Punishment might be a tempting option, if your child seems to frustrate you by not listening to you. However, it rarely has a positive effect on children. In turn, punishing them and forcing them to do as you say without logically explaining things to them or having discussions results in rebellious behavior and stubbornness.

Therefore, instead of locking them up in a room or being stern, try to be soft and understanding to them as much as you can. Try to listen to what they want to say and advise them in friendly manner.

Conflicts in ideas can be reduced by discussing views and opinions of both sides, and coming up to a conclusion that would explain the desirable option. Showing constant signs of warmth and affection are highly essential also, to make them feel loved and secure.
