The 3 YoYo Tricks Every Beginner Should Learn First

Expert Author Jeff Deutsch

There is no kid in any part of the globe who does not know what a YoYo is. However, many times, a beginner will get a YoYo and get zero instruction on how to enjoy it. That is why I have put together this guide on the three basic tricks every new YoYo artist should learn. After mastering these, you will be all set for more challenging ones.

1) Around The World Trick This basic trick will require your YoYo to "sleep" or to be steady to make sure that the string tension will not be too tight. Then, you must begin with the "forward pass." After doing this, hold your YoYo by your side and just begin the throw. When it reaches the end of the string, all you have to do is to cushion it so that the YoYo will sleep.

This forward motion then will carry it into a revolution. This is the time when the YoYo will make a revolution all the way around. Moreover, once it has made one revolution, just give it a tug, and return it back to your hand. Without any further ado, you had learned your first trick.

2) Rock The Baby Trick. The first thing you need to do in this trick is to drape the YoYo's string over your left index finger. Then, pinch the string a few inches above your YoYo. Next, put your thumb just into the loop and expand it so that you can form a triangle, then fold this triangle down. Then you just need to tilt the triangle up and swing it back and forth a few times more so that you will be able to complete the trick.

3) Walk the Dog. The first thing you need to do here is to throw a sleeper and lower it on to the ground. Then just let the YoYo roll along the ground a few feet away from you. Finally, to have it returned to your hand, simply give it a tug. This is a classic trick that goes all the way back to the origins of 20th century YoYoing.

I hope this guide gets you started in the right direction. Playing with YoYos is an excellent way to develop your hand-eye coordination and never be bored in any setting!
