Every relationship needs a lot of work to be successful but people tend to be confused by how much work is too much. It is nobody's obligation to tell you the signs of a bad relationship. You should be able to pinpoint them as you go along with the relationship. No it's not hard to pinpoint them, they are actually pretty obvious.
Lack of trust is one of the most common signs of a bad relationship. Trust is something that should be freely given in a relationship. Both parties should always be truthful and not give any reason for distrust. Trust is not only applicable to trusting your partner that he or she would not cheat on you. It's the thought or assurance that when you commit mistakes, your partner will not judge you and he or she will still love you. If you find yourself lying to cover your mistake because you are terrified of your partner judging you then you are not being true to yourself. Lying, hiding the truth and withholding information are all telltale signs of a bad relationship.
Disrespect is also a sign of an unhealthy relationship. This is something on my "non-negotiables" category. Each one of us has the right to be treated with respect and dignity especially in a relationship that is supposed to foster love. Never let anybody put you down or berate you.
Physical and emotional abuse is another obvious sign of a bad relationship. When any of these two is present in your relationship, you have to get out immediately. You think it will get better eventually? Sorry but it won't! Don't let somebody abuse you because your self-esteem will eventually suffer and you will start to think that you don't deserve someone better. You will be boxed in fear and you will question your self-worth. Seek help from family members, friends or law enforcement if you think your safety is in jeopardy.
