Team Building - Worth Every Penny, But Harder Than You Think to Get It Right

Expert Author Lance Winslow

Anyone who has ever participated on a team realizes that when things are going right, it's like magic, and when things are going wrong it can lead to disaster, or in sports, a loss. Sometimes the challenges come from the opponent, but more often they come from within. Building teams is hard enough, but maintaining teams is very difficult. Still, if the foundation is strong the team can survive adversity and become stronger in the process.

Perhaps, like you, I participated on many sports teams in my youth and in the business world I have created and coached teams and inevitably conquered, by using just the right techniques and strategies. Some might say that team building is an art and a science, but it isn't rocket science - maybe so, but those project management teams at NASA did put man on the moon, and thus, you'll have to get up pretty early to better that effort.

The trick is to build a team with motivated people, all on the same page, and focused on the goals and strategic objectives at hand; we call that winning. No it's not going to be easy to build a winning team, to recruit the best people, and to do it better than any of your competitors, or imaginary competitors, such as time; or illusive and tough mile-markers, or seeming impossible odds, but you can accomplish anything when that magical synergy takes how. This I know as a fact.

Today, there is so much talk about "team building" and everyone seems to want to be the chief, however unless you learn from a top player, you'll never truly understand what it takes to build a real team, and when I say real, I mean one which really has a chance at winning - one which is driven, dedicated, and knows no bounds or limits. Because winners, ONLY want to play on that type of team, now then, anyone can get a bunch of people into a "group think" motif or mode, but so what? That's not going to win all the games, make it to the playoffs, and become champions.

Don't you want to sing; "We are the Champions" at the end of the season? I sure do, and that's why when I think about team building I focus on the goals ahead and winning, and build my team to do just that. I hope you will agree, I hope you will please consider all this and then think on it.
