Teach Your Children to Save Money

Many teens nowadays are having a part-time job to earn some money. With this money they can buy things they like. However, the value of earning and spending money is still unknown by them. They just spend everything without saving it for later. In this situation the parents are playing a crucial role.

As parents, it is a good idea to teach your children on how to save money. You should teach them as soon when they get pocket money from you. The sooner you do this, the better they prepared to learn money management for their future.

Counting numbers
You should teach your children the real meaning of money. A good moment to teach them is when they are starting to count numbers. Your children should learn this in a easy way from you or else they do not understand it. They also may be able to remember the teachings if you do this often.

The value of saving money
You should educate them the value of saving money. They have to understand how important it is to save money and how it will impact when they grow up. You should entertain them with questions and answers about money. This way it will seem like a game to them, but they will remember it well.

Allowance
When you start giving them allowance, you need to do that in denominations. Encourage them to keep some bills for the future. Tell them to save money for later, such as "With the saved money you can buy the toys you want". This will motivate them to save money. Remember that you are teaching them the value of the money. So do not give them to much money or else they will get spoiled because you are giving them free money. And you know it well, there is no such thing as free money. You have to earn it!

Working at home
Working for money, that is also a way to teach them about money. Your kids are maybe too young to work outside. Then let them work at home. They get fifty cents to one dollar every time from you if they do their work. For example washing your car, doing the dishes, or mowing in the yard. It is a way to teach them that earning money is not easy. Hard working is needed to earn some money and it should also be spent wisely.

Piggy banks
Giving them piggy banks to put coins into it and tell them to wait until they get full. If you think this is kind of old fashion then just open bank accounts for them. To keep them motivated to save money, you should show them how much they have earned.

Money and saving is not an easy task to teach your children. Patience is needed to educate them and is important to let them know the value of money. If you are patient and consistent in teaching them, then they will learn this easily. And do not forget the encouraging and motivating them.
