Millions of people have dreams of becoming famous actors or actress. They have the goal of living in the fast lane and being recognized all over the world. There are a lot of perks that come with being a famous actor. They are paid millions of dollars to perform an art that is loved by people all over the world. Not to mention, they are treated like modern day royalty. No one questions that there is a lot of money that comes from being in the entertainment business.

There are other benefits that come from being an actor besides monetary compensation. There is the joy and pleasure that comes from continuing the ancient art of acting. This is something that has been around for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks were the first civilization to really appreciate acting. Cities all over Greece erected huge theaters with the capacity to hold thousands of citizens. They came from miles around to see actors present flavorful comedies or terrible tragedies. After the Greeks, the Romans carried on the acting tradition. They were known for having war-beaten slaves take the roles of entertainers. Because of this, the level of professionalism was quite low in Roman theatre. Throughout history, audiences have been entertained by seeing the world through someone else's eyes. This is why acting has been around for thousands of years and will be for thousands more to come.

The decision you need to make is if you want to pursue acting as a hobby or a profession. If you don't see yourself making it on the big screen, maybe it is better to do it as a past-time activity. There are plenty of community acting and film groups that are looking for new members. Performing in a local play will give you the satisfaction of performance without the pressure of trying to make it as a star. If you are serious about acting as a career, there are a few simple steps that might help you on your way.

The first step is to move to a large metropolitan city. This should be a place like Los Angeles or New York. It is essential to be around the people that are in the game. Working in one of these major cities will give you the chance to build your resume and be introduced to other people in the industry. The next step is to take some real acting classes. Almost all of the actors that have made it took some form of formal training. This will help you gain you confidence in your abilities and further your network with people in the industry. Clearly, having a long list of contacts is extremely important in the entertainment business. The next thing you're going to need to work on is getting a professional resume. As your body of work grows, replace your old experiences with the new ones.

After you get a respectable resume, it will be time to start looking for more permanent work. You are going to need to send your portfolio, resume, and a brief cover letter to several casting directors and agents. Even if they don't get back to you, it is important to follow up with post cards every 4 to 6 months. You should leave them with information about your current activity and future goals. It is very important that you stay in the loop. There are a lot of good local acting newspapers. These tell you what productions are being casted and keep you up on current affairs in the industry. It is also important that you always accept invitations to social events. Networking is the key to being successful. Lastly, it is essential that you persevere. Almost all the actors you see on the big screen today went through a similar experience as the one I've listed. It is not easy to become a successful actor. If it were, everyone would do it. Acting can be an activity that brightens your life and enriches your soul. It can also be a source of great monetary compensation. To be successful, you should aim for the top and never look back.

TRU Talent Management has been helping aspiring actors for almost a decade. Currently, they do talent management in Salt Lake City, Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada.
