If you are considering taking your child on a fishing trip, you may want to sit and think about this a little differently than if you were planning a fishing trip with adults. Kids get very excited at the thought of taking a fishing pole out to the lake and catching the biggest fish that lives.
They know that the minute their pole hits the water, the fish will go after their hook. We all know from our fishing experiences that it could take hours to catch 1 single fish. That's OK this isn't really that important. If you want to increase your odds of catching a fish, find a local pond or river that is stocked full of fish. If you ask around, most people can tell you where the best spot is.
As far as bait and tackle go, stick with the basics. Take your child to the back yard and dig up some worms. Your kids will love this and will think you are super cool for digging in the mud and touching grimy worms with them. One of the bright Red, and white bobbers is a great purchase for first time fisherman.
The kids can see if the fish are biting and will help them decide when they should start reeling that huge fish in. Kids love to talk! So, don't be surprised if your child wants to talk the entire time. He may also be very inpatient with waiting for the fish to bite. Don't get caught up in all the usual rules people tend to use when fishing. Have fun and teach them something new. On the next fishing trip they can start working on those rules.
