Are You a Survivor? Prosper Through the Recession
What does it take to survive a downturn? Rough economic times separate the light weights from the stick-to-it entrepreneurs. But it isn't just toughness you'll need when sales get lean-you need a smart strategy. Here are some of the tactics that successful entrepreneurs use to build a successful down-turned strategy.
First Off - Don't Panic!
You need to keep a cool head. You have to keep your wits about you in order to adjust to a quickly changing market. Also, your customers can smell desperation. They want to do business with success. If they sense you're losing control, they could take advantage of you, beat you down on price or turn to the competition. Don't let them see you sweat!
Don't Lower Prices - Increase Quality or Improve Service
Statistics show that people use their cards 36.1% more during a recession. So lowering your prices is not likely to help your business. If your feel the need to offer a better deal to customers who may be struggling themselves, instead, give them higher quality or fast service rather lower prices. In the long run, they will respect you for offering more value and choices rather than discounted prices.
Don't Burn Bridges with Past Customers
If your customers quit buying, don't let them slip away. Avoid the temptation to let your personal disappointments sour a good relationship with a client or customer that just can't buy from you right now. If your stay upbeat and stay in touch (often) your former customers will be happy to purchase from you again when times improve. Reach out!
Increase you Advertising - Tell the World!
This may sound ridiculous, but downturns are an excellent time to reach new customers. Let your potential customers know you take credit cards and debit cards by using the power of Mastercard and Visa symbols. These world-known brands send a message of confidence and success when you add them to your websites, yellow pages, classifieds, voice mail, biz cards, store front window, and anywhere else you think of. It's a winning strategy.
Don't give up!
In the words of Winston Churchill, "Never, Never, Never, give up" Once you survive the downturn, you'll have a stronger business with less competition for sure. Be a Survivor!!!
