Dealing with a breakup is a difficult situation to go through, but surviving a breakup is doable. Turmoil in any relationship is extremely hard on both parties as there are many hurt feelings and painful emotions to deal with. It will involve a great deal of personal strength to survive, and although this task may seem daunting, it is most definitely doable.
To begin with you must learn to not hold back on your pain and allow it to bottle up inside. You cannot go through life without pain, but on the other hand you cannot continue to go through life constantly in pain. To initiate the process of surviving a breakup you must first realize that you are hurting and that it is okay to let loose your emotions and cry if needed. Scream, kick the tires and then cry some more. By allowing some of these pent up emotions to get out you will be allowing yourself to move on.
The next step is to calmly and clearly evaluate just where it is in the relationship you are. Knowing this will allow you to make rational decisions on the state of your relationship. More times than not, you will realize that the relationship is truly over. Both partners need to come to terms with this realization, and at that point, you can move on to the next step.
Once the decision has been made to not continue in the relationship, you and your ex must remove those items that overlap between you. This will include property that you have exchanged in your past or personal items that may have been left at each other's homes. This act will help to ensure that nothing is left behind to cause emotional break downs in the near future.
Perform a ritual of sorts to finalize the breakup. This is a symbolic event that will tend to erase all material items that remind you of your ex. Destroy letters, notes, cards and pictures of your ex. Tear them into strips or burn them; whatever it takes to delete them from your life. This symbolic gesture is strictly for your benefit.
Breaking up is difficult and when you find yourself trying to get over the one you love, do not try surviving a breakup alone. Utilize any support that is available to you; possibly friends, family or co-workers that you are close to. These are the people that can provide an emotional support net for you. You are still going to be faced with a lot of turbulence and you will need all of the help you can get because you are surviving a breakup.
Consider this - you are not the first couple to breakup and you will not be the last, you will survive and you will move forward in your life.
