Facebook is undoubtedly one of the major websites in the world today, with probably the highest number of registered users in the world presently. It is also one of the top five visited sites worldwide hourly, daily or whatever metric you want to use. This means that for those with businesses, there also exists the potential to reach this huge customer base by using Facebook to leverage your business.

An astute business person will not just use Facebook for personal purposes, but will also seek to get benefits to his/her business by using the strengths of Facebook to reach a target audience. Facebook tends to bring together people of related interests or location, and if you get people to patronize your business via Facebook, then there is an increased possibility of these same people providing free publicity for you by telling friends they know will be interested through Facebook, which could result in a viral type spread of your business.

The major ways to achieve a successful business use for Facebook involves three simple but major processes, the first involves profile management, and the second has to do with sharing your profile and connecting to others, and finally, use fan pages, groups and the network facilities to spread information about your business.

Managing your profile has to do with making sure your profile is completely and professionally filled out, to earn the trust of people who end up viewing the business's profile. You will also score points for using a business account for your business, rather than a personal account. This eliminates confusion. Preferably, your business account should not contain personal photos, rather professional looking pictures of you and/or the business should be the only available pictures.

Sharing your business profile and getting others to connect to your profile is the tricky and difficult part. You must have a Facebook URL, which is simply a username for your profile. This should be placed in your business cards, adverts and so on. You can also append this to emails you send out and newsletters, if you have any. Make sure you only paste information about your business on your wall, such as "Working on a new design involving green and black". Suggest friends to clients that are connected, based on research you've done on their interests. This helps build trust.

Finally, make certain that you use the group and fan pages available in Facebook. Fan pages are usually better for products and businesses that are already well known, whereas group pages are better for new and emerging brands. Post upcoming events and useful information regularly but not overly frequently, to keep your brand name available to potential clients regularly.

These tips will definitely assist you in a more enriching experience for your business with the power of social networking.
