Although Styles P has not yet achieved the individual success of some of his peers, he is still one of the most influential rappers in the game. In addition to his solo work, he is a member of the rap groups The LOX and Ruff Ryders. Many hip hop fans believe that Styles P is the most underrated rapper working today. His music and lyrics are often compared to street poetry and cannot be matched by even the most popular rappers in the industry. In 2002, Styles P released his first record, entitled A Gangster And A Gentleman. It was certified gold and reached number 2 on the US R&B charts. His next two albums, however, were not quite as successful and only reached numbers 19 and 7 on the R&B charts, respectively.
Whether or not his studio albums are successful is irrelevant for Styles P because he really shines in the mixtapes that he appears on. Between 2004 and 2008, he released eight official mixtapes that featured work that could not be found on his studio albums. He has also appeared on a variety of other mixtapes with artists such as Pharrell and Jadakiss.
Styles P mixtapes prove the point that a great rapper does not need to have smash hits on the radio in order to make a splash on the hip hop scene. Although his last two albums did not reach the success of his first, Styles P has kept fans interested with his mixtapes. They have been so powerful that they have convinced many hip hop fans that he is the most underrated rapper working in the industry.
