So in my article Style Matters I mentioned that developing your personal style had to do with wearing clothes to suit your colouring and bodyshape but that you had to bear in mind your personality and the look you are trying to create. The different personalities can be split into six types which helps you to figure out the type of look which would feel most comfortable.
Dramatic The drama queens among us like to be noticed and go for strong colour or cut or both in order to achieve their look. Often the dramatic's colouring is striking and they've learnt to play it up to get results. This is no look for the shrinking violet - this one is for the full on confident woman.
Creative Some-one who dresses to suit their mood, can often work in a creative field, fashion, art, design etc. This is not a typical high street look and to the creative colours and pattern can clash in unpredictable ways. but somehow done well it looks right. Wearers of this look are often handy with a needle so buttons can be changed, hems taken up or let down, pieces added or taken away to personalise this look.
Natural Comfort Comfort Comfort, Oh and did I mention this woman likes to be comfortable. Not for her wearing high heels just 'cos they make the outfit, forget the skirt if it needs tights. This woman loves trousers, in particular jeans and all things casual. Fashion is not as important as for some, but suitability and Comfort are key. A few natural beads, maybe a watch but not a whole load of jewellery and simple hair - this is the woman for whom wash and go was invented.
Classic The great British look - think matching top to bottom and matching shoes and bag (leather of course!) - I even have one very good classic friend who matches her underwear to her top every day - that's the classic. Understated, elegant, a quality dresser - Vive la M&S. Not for her costume jewellery unless it's good - gold, silver, platinum and pearls in abundance.
Romantic Think pink, pretty, girly, velvet, chiffon and lace, embroidery and detail. Think bangles and bows and Wuthering Heights. Think long and luxurious tresses, think high heels and stockings. This lady is all woman - want to know who wears all the skirts and dresses which you leave behind in the shops? Look no further.
City Chic International travel. Quality. Timeless elegance. Quietly noticeable. Chic. How the hell do they do it? Simple dressing in clothes that do not date but are made part of the moment by the one large accessory, the hair, the latest handbag and shoes and the sheer panache with which they are worn. Quite often people find it hard to recognise their own style and may flit between styles leaving them confused about what it is they're looking for, if this is you then a Style Consultation may be the answer.
