Life can be pretty tough growing up - especially during the teenage years. It was made all the more difficult for me due to the fact that I had a stutter. I will never forget those terrible days at school when I would at times stutter in front of the class. In this article I will be describing what life was like for me back then.
I am now thirty-seven years of age and I am happy to report that I have been able to speak fluently for the past fifteen years. This article therefore does have a happy ending. It was the traumatic experiences and the deep depressions that these experiences caused that made me so determined to eradicate this form of speech impediment from my life when I was in my early twenties. There was absolutely no way that I could face having this horrible affliction for the rest of my life.
My school life was especially troublesome due to my lack of fluency. I would virtually always stutter when asked to read out aloud in the classroom and this would very much amuse the rest of my classmates. I would seemingly never put my hand up to ask or to answer a question.
I so wanted to be one of the popular kids but I found myself isolated the majority of the time. In truth I quite liked being alone as I would never stutter when speaking to myself.
As I entered into my twenties I was determined to fight back, determined to find a solution to my stuttering problem once and for all. I worked tirelessly and after around eleven months had managed to achieve total fluency.
Life is now far easier and happier. I no longer have to accept second best in life and I am now very much the life and soul of the party.
If you have a speech impediment I would advise you never to give up - keep believing that one day you will be able to enjoy a life with fluent speech.
