Stutterers of the World - You Are Not Alone

There are many people all over the world with the speech disorder called stammering or stuttering. Often stutterers have the tendency not to involve or speak in public because of their shyness and fear. Mostly people tease stutterers rather than making them feel at ease. Far from the speech disorder, most stutterers are gifted with above average intelligence, knowledge and education than ordinary individuals around them. To illustrate this, here are some of the important personalities who are or were stutterers throughout their life.

Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill was the prime minister of Britain. He was awarded Nobel Prize for Literature. Stuttering Foundation of America uses picture of Winston Churchill as one of the successful personality with stuttering.

Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton was a famous mathematician, astronomer and physicist from England. The proposer of theories of Universal gravitation and laws of motion.

Claudius

Claudius was the fourth Roman Emperor. Historians believe that he was murdered by his wife Agrippina after giving him poison. Because of the stuttering handicap, his family had virtually excluded him from public office.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was a famous American actress, singer and model. She was instructed by a therapist to use her exaggerated mouth movements to control her stuttering.

Vladimir Lenin

Vladimir Lenin was the Russian Bolshevik leader with stuttering handicap.

James Earl Jones

James Earl Jones is one of the well known American actors. His stuttering was so severe that he refused to speak loud at the age of five. His school teacher Donald Crouch helped him to speak correctly by asking him to recite a poem in the class each day.

Moses

Moses was a religious leader born during Jewish enslavement in Egypt. The Hebrew Bible says that Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. He is often called as the founder of the religion of Israel.

Joe Biden

Joe Biden is the 47th American Vice President. Because of stuttering he was teased by his Catholic school teacher. He practiced speech by reading in front of a mirror and completed his law education.

Eric O'Conner is a former stutterer who stuttered for 10 years, before he found a lasting solution to his stutter. He is now vouching for increased awareness of the defect to reduce the occurrence among people. He has since prepared a Guide for stammerers to help them in their healing process.
