How do you feel when you remember that you haven't done things you know you should do or taken steps you should take? Think you are a lazy person; get angry and frustrated with yourself for failing?
When people procrastinate over issues such as setting goals or taking steps to realise a life ambition it is often attributed to laziness. But the fact is that procrastination is a by-product of a discomfort in the mind or a sign that something is going on the wrong way. What are the causes of procrastination? The real good news is not in the cause but in the solution. And that is,you can handle procrastination and get on with your life and be the best you are created to be. There is a wisdom and ability of God for you to handle it.
Procrastination could be caused by over-indulgence in a particular activities (watching TV, surfing on internet, chatting etc) that you find it hard to switch over to things more important to your personal development. How about working out a time management plan for yourself? You have to learn to control your time usage. Set goals. This can help you to become more focused and targeted for a purpose. Have clear priorities in life (everything cannot be equally important and benefiting). Things you don't quite enjoy doing are often more important to your personal development. Have a timetable for the day and tell someone (who cares about your personal development) your plan. This can help you become more accountable.
Do you get easily distracted and depressed that you find it hard to stay long and focused on a project, thereby procrastinating. There is an ability and peace of God for your mind. Confess the living word of God over your mind. Stop worrying about getting your acts right. That will cloud your mind with anxiety, worries and fear which will invariably cause distraction, distress and depression. Don't get down worrying about project, that will cause you to procrastinate on performing the necessary action. Just step out and start doing something.
Stop clouding your mind with thoughts of the expected end of a project. Rather than wondering about a project, use that time to get moving and starting putting up "building blocks" in your project. Learn taking one step at a time, one issue at a time, one level at a time. Concentrate on the task for the NOW.
