So you've written your eBook have you? You've had it edited. And now you're ready to publish it.
But how?
First off you need to decide how you are going to publish it.
One option is to get someone, a designer, to do it for you. The designer will design how your book will look. They put the images you've chosen into the book, re-design the interior, and design and create the cover. This is probably the easiest, but most expensive.
Alternatively, you can purchase a package from an On Demand publisher. Many On Demand publishers include a variety of important things which you can choose from, such as an artist for designing your cover, or re-designing the interior. This is likely the most cost efficient, at least until you become well-known. For large numbers of books it may not be the best idea.
Finally, and this is by far the cheapest but most difficult, you can do it yourself. Obviously you need to have a fair amount of knowledge about image editing programs, such as Photoshop, and normally a good amount of skill at painting and drawing. You won't have to pay someone to do anything concerning your books aesthetic points, but it requires the most time and you may not have that.
There are more things you need to do if you are publishing your own eBooks.
You need an ISBN. An ISBN is the number of your book in the world's computers. Every book has one, and no bookseller will sell a book without one, so make sure you get a number. If you look at the barcode on the back of the book you will see "ISBN:" and then a large group of numbers. This is the book's ISBN, so that electronics know what book it is.
Covers are what draw people to the book and it's also true for eBooks. You've already determined how you are going to design your eBook's cover but now you need to create several. You may need multiple views for different purposes. If you used a designer they should provide you the different views.
You also need to design and re-format the interior to how you want the final copy to look. Perhaps you want to include some Jpegs? Add them in now. Make everything on the inside of the EBook just the way you want it, because now is the time. A good way to get some ideas is to get a template from an On Demand Publisher. It will help a lot.
Finally, you want to prepare the digital copy. Sure, you can just leave it as a Microsoft Word file, but that doesn't look as good as an Adobe Acrobat file. You have to decide what format your EBook is going to be in, and then put it into that format. Likely your pictures will be moved so move them back to where you want. If you have any videos put them in. Add your cover at the front.
Finally, you upload your product. If it's a larger file it's an idea to shrink the file using a program such as WinRar. If you plan to send it to several people beforehand, or if you want to upload it right now before you want it released, it's a good idea to put a password on the file, and only release the password to those who you want to have it right now. Release the pass later on once it's officially released to those who purchase it. This will help stop people from giving your work to everybody they know and even those they don't.
