Staying in Singapore - Lots of Things to See and Do When You Visit Singapore

Singapore is one of the most prosperous cities in Asia and is among the top 10th costliest cities in the world. The island nation is situated at the southern tip of the West Malaysian Peninsula and is approximately 137 kilometers north of the equator making the weather more on the hotter side. 

The population of Singapore is nearly 4.5 million with roughly a millions of them foreigners. English is the official language of Singapore, but Malay, Hindi, Mandarin and Chinese are also prevalent. Singapore is a multicultural society with the community of Christian, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism. 

The city is flocked to by tourists throughout the year and the major places of attraction are:

Asian Civilization Museum

The museum is the face of the three museums of all the Museums of Singapore.  The galleries are filled with old artifacts from various Asian cultures and their evolutions. 

Escape Theme Park: 

This theme park is the biggest Outdoor Theme Park in Singapore. The park has a variety of high rides and water related sports which will thrill you to the maximum. A must see for the adventure freaks, but strict no for the ones with weak heart. Well, you can just sit on a bench and watch the people screaming their hearts out if you fear heights. 

Jurong Bird Park:

The idea was conceived by the Finance minister in 1968 who wanted to the people of the industrial areas to enjoy with nature. The park got donations from many zoos and private donors and was built with a cost of more than $3.5 million. 

Kent Ridge Park

Spreading across an area of 47 hectares, this park is a must visit for bird watchers. This park was the house of the senior British officers during World War II and the surviving building Bukit Chandu has been converted into a World War II memorial. This park also has 20 fitness stations.

Merlion

This statue with the head of a lion and body of a fish is 8.6 meters high and 70 tones. This represents the traditional name of the place, Singpura meaning "lion city". The original statue was built at the mouth of Singapore River but when the Esplanade Bridge was built in 1997, the view from the Marina Bay waterfront was blocked. So the statue was transferred to the Merlin Park where it resides currently. 

Night Safari

Opened officially in 1994, the Night Safari is the first nocturnal zoo in the world. This zoo boasts of around 1000 animals of 120 species. The zoo is split into 3 parts each connected by trains because of the sheer size. There are nightly cultural performances and plenty of places for food and drink in here.  

Pulau Ubin

This is a small sparely inhibited island, shaped like a boomerang. Legend has it that an elephant, pig and frog challenged each other to reach the shore. They could not reach the shore and the elephant and pig turned into this island. Visitors go to this place to enjoy the beautiful marine life forms and adventure rides like mountain biking. 

Singapore Johore Battery 

The Johore Battery is a war memorial site that dates back to the early 1940s. Built the British, this place has 3 guns that can fire 15' shells and have huge underground tunnels to store ammunition. The funs were destroyed during World War II, but replicas of the gun and shells are displayed at the place. 

Sir Stamford Raffles Statue

Sir Stamford Raffles is considered by many to be the founder of the modern Singapore. The statue is built in the North bank of Singapore river and pays tribute to the founder of one of the most modern cities of the world. 

The Fullerton Hotel

The Fullerton Building was built in 1928 and is the heart of Singapore's commerce. It has since then been transformed into the post office and now the Fullerton Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in the town.
