Many people who probably share little else in common do share this trait - a love for collecting figurines. This is a hobby which is fun and rewarding and has a broad appeal to people of all ages. These days, it is easier than ever before to find and collect affordable figurines. You can of course buy figurines in stores, garage sales and so on; and even more exciting, you can shop for affordable figurines from the comfort of your own home thanks to the internet!

Parents and grandparents often want to foster a love of figurine collecting in their children or grandchildren. Studies show that collecting is a good hobby for children; it has been shown that children who have a collecting hobby are more organized and brighter as adults. There are so many different kinds of figurines out there that there is surely a type of figurine which will spark an interest in figurines with your child. These figurines are also generally cheap and small in size, making them a great hobby for children.

There are even entire lines of figurines which are made specifically with figurine collectors in mind. Most notable among these are Hummel figurines; these figurines appreciate in value over time and have an appeal which is enduring. Most collectors, however do not collect figurines for any monetary value they may have, but for their inherent beauty and the joy of collecting.

There are collectors who choose to specialize in one particular type of figurine. These may be figurines of elephants, clowns or whatever captures their interest. Since there are an enormous variety of different figurines out there, there is something for everyone. Part of the fun is finding the kinds of figurines that you like. A themed collection of figurines is a particular passion of many collectors - and seeking out that next figurine is kind of like hunting for buried treasure!

Some collectors instead choose to collect a certain size; so that no matter how big their collection gets, everything will still seem in place. If you are trying to put together this kind of collection, you'll have to check the size of each figurine before you order - pictures of figurines may not be helpful, since it's hard to judge scale from many photographs.

When buying figurines online, especially in online auctions, be certain that you are bidding on what you think you are - having a good guide to figurine collection can be a big help. A guide can give you an idea of how much a given figurine is worth. When you buy pre-owned figurines, always check carefully for damage and signs of repair. Any figurines which is repaired has probably been dropped and then repaired with glue. Remember that even the most expert repair will still result in a lower value for the figurine. Look for cracks or lines on the figurine; these are signs of damage.

A lot of collectors like to put their figurines on display in glass cases. This keeps them protected form dust and dirt. While some collectors enjoy the interaction afforded by dusting their figurines, others like to avid this task and to keep their figurines safely out of the reach of children and pets. If you take care of your figurines, they will reward you with their beauty for years to come.
